Have your camera ready, I recommend shooting with a dedicated camera but even good photos can be made with your phone camera. If you can shoot with a DSLR or Mirrorless camera understand the lens is more important than the body. A good lens on a less expensive body will produce better results than the other way around. Shooting at larger apetures (smaller number like 2.8, 4, 5.6) create more pleasing photos, subject is in focus and background slightly blurred. Try shooting in Manual mode, learn your camera and you can control the results and ultimately create your own style of photography, youtube has limitless tutorials available.
